I have worked for three different interior landscape companies and, I must say, there were BIG differences in these companies.

The people who actually take care of your plants are the ones you will see on a regular basis. If they don’t have a good support system behind them, they will have problems. For instance, plants that are not properly cared for before going to accounts can cause big trouble.

Having healthy, good looking plants is what you want, right? Of course it is, so a company that does not properly care for its plants before they show up in your office is not giving what you pay for.

The best interior landscape company I worked for was very good at getting things done. The owner supplied company vehicles to all employees, making sure all accounts would get the service they were paying for. They maintained their own greenhouses, ensuring there were always tropical plants available to use for replacements and new installations. Everything was done with expediency. I could order a plant for a replacement and that plant would be on the account the next week. That is as it should be.

The worst interior landscape company I worked for was just the opposite. I could order a plant for a replacement and there were times that plant was never replaced. Sometimes I got so frustrated, I would go buy a plant at the local store for a replacement. This company never had supplies for me, I had to buy them myself. The owner hired family members because they could not keep jobs elsewhere. And they were paid more than many of the other hard working employees. This company also charged you based on what they thought you would pay. The owner would mark items up 700% to make bigger sales totals. There was no rhyme or reason in the operation of that company. What a nightmare!

I know this is not common but, my point is, you may not be getting what you think you are paying for. Check reviews, if you can find them. Often times, you won’t find many reviews, but if you do, more than one or two bad reviews, I would pick another company.

One thing you might want to do before picking a service, if you have the time, is ask for the name of a current customer where you can see the quality of plants and service. Malls, the lobby of a commercial building, a restaurant or hotel, many of these places have interior landscape services. Walk in and look for plants that have healthy looking foliage, plants that are clean and don’t have yellow or brown leaves on them. If you see plants covered in dust, dead and dying leaves, you might want to avoid that company.

I know that some interior landscape companies want you to sign a long term contract. This, of course, obligates you to stay with that company or pay a price. Be sure to get some assurance that if the service is not worth paying for, you can cancel with no extra cost to you.
